Big shout out to @bydestinations ( backyarddestinations.wordpress.com ) for the much appreciated nom for the Liebster Award. We all love to share the love love love and get our words out there so more than happy to pay it forward.
Here goes nothing:
Here goes nothing:
1: What inspired you to start blogging?
I travel a lot (as I work in the travel industry) and I also write a lot. Put two and two together - simple!
2: Hotel or hostel?
Depends on where I am in the world. Ain't no hostels on remote islands in the Maldives!
3: What’s one place every traveler should visit and why?
Portugal's Alentejo coast (see previous post). It is by far the most beautiful and serene coastline that I have ever seen. Throw in the most amazing regional food and wine and you have an experience that will knock your socks off.
4: How do you handle situations when travel itineraries don’t go as planned?
Nothing ever goes as planned when it comes to travel. Embrace it. You'll be much better off for the experience.
5: What is the most breathtaking sight you’ve seen internationally?
Hmmm... hard one. I would have to say dusk on an overwater bungalow in the Maldives, rays swarming around your private pontoon searching for food, and the most blissful sunsets I've ever seen. Doesn't get much better than that.
6: What’s the best food you’ve had abroad?
Ridiculously good felafels in Cairo. Either that or back alley Pho in Vietnam. Some good eating!
7: What invaluable experience(s) have you taken away from traveling?
a) Blend in! Locals do it best!
b) No matter what situation you are in stay calm and embrace it. You will laugh about it one day because it is all part of the journey.
c) Your money and your passport are the only irreplaceable things. Nothing else matters as much.
8: Do you prefer air or ground transportation to get around?
Being that I live on a massive island there is only so far you can travel by ground. Air to my first destination and ground from therin.
9: What is one thing you must always have with you while on the go?
Passport and money. That's all you need. Everything else can be bought.
10: Describe an interesting person you met while traveling.
An Irish bloke I met in Egypt who was a chef. We smoked hashish, talked about food, travels and our homes.
11: What is one place you could visit again and again?
Cambodia. It was three years ago and I still haven't managed to shake off the tingling feeling I get from that place!
