The world was utterly shocked. How can one airline endure not one but two major horrific and catastrophic events in the space of a few months. It is unthinkable. The odds are just out of this world.
Contrary to what the media would like you to believe this is not some sort of a budget airline who was hellbent on saving money at the risk of lives. Yes, ALL airlines do try and save money where possible. It is a very well known fact. They are a business and certainly not the first to do so. This airline is of an extremely high standard with an enviable safety record prior to these events. The safety record held allowed them to service an enormous number of destinations around the globe.
The mystery of MH370 may never be fully understood. We may not even find any sign of it. I am certainly not going to speculate on this as many have and will continue to do so.
MH17 is much clearer. There is evidence. Yes possibly tampered or incorrectly handled but there is some evidence to go on. And it does not point to the airline itself.
But we need to differentiate the two.
We cannot speculate on MH370. There is no evidence to say whether the airline or any crew member was entirely to blame if at all.
MH17 was in my eyes no fault to the airline. They were following a legal procedure and route that had been followed by countless other airlines at, around and even following the incident. This was not a 'no fly zone'. If it were they would not have taken the route I am sure of it. This was a heavily accessed route by countless airlines between Europe and Asia.
The media will also tell you that a number of other airlines do not go anywhere near Ukraine. Some of these very airlines were (and still will be) flying directly over Iraq during conflict for long periods of time. Nobody said a word then. It wasn't a recognizable issue. Yes, now it should definitely be an issue to be addressed by those who control the skies as it has become apparent that they are not as safe as they used to be, but it wasn't an issue at the time of this event so the airline can't be blamed.
Malaysia airlines is extremely important. Not just to the people of Malaysia but to the rest of the world who rely on their network. Without them other carriers in the region will monopolize the route and prices will soar. We cannot condemn Malaysia Airlines for blame that was basically fabricated by the media. It is unfair and entirely unjustified. There is no link between the two incidents at all as some will certainly speculate.
Thankfully the attention has now been focused upon the real culprits whomever they may be. The airline will and already has paid a massive price for the incidents. In fact travel in general has taken a beating. This is to be expected but we need to not let this deter us from our journeys in the long run.
My heart goes out to anyone who has been personally affected by either of these sad events. Many of us have been touched in some way or another as we mourn and grieve for those who were lost.
But we will still continue on our journeys discovering this wonderful planet as our future generations will for years to come.
Safe journeys my friends.
